We often talk about word-of-mouth marketing, referrals and how to use your social media to gain new subscribers, but we haven't had a heart-to-heart about local marketing. Until now.
Local marketing is exactly what it sounds like, it's about marketing in your own backyard. Usually, within a radius of 50km, but sometimes even narrower is better. It usually comes pretty naturally, too, because you understand the people in your neighbourhood very well... you are one!
Easy ways to market locally if you run a digital business
Since you're digital, you might be thinking, "Do I need to target locally, since my audience could be anywhere in the world?" This is a fair question, and we admire your ambition. However, you might not always only be digital and you speak the language of your 'hood, so it can't hurt to become a community staple.
Here are our suggestions:
+Locally target your instagram or facebook ads
+Use geotagging on instagram so people discovering in your area discover you
+Spend time engaging with local businesses you'd love to be associated with online and off
+Put posters or business cards with QR codes linking to your Subkit in community hubs that make sense for your business. (If you're a nutritionist, maybe your local Yoga studio would be a good place, etc.)
+Support community events. Sponsor local festivals + fairs and make your subscription front and centre at these events
+Offer a Backyard Bonus. Something like an extra first session or a gift shipped locally to new subscribers in your area, something small and sweet to make your local community feel extra loved
Easy ways to market locally if you have a brick and mortar
All of the above, plus...
+Put a QR card at the register of your business, making it clear that if you subscribe you save
+Have your sandwich sign mention your subscription plan "Ask us how to save when you subscribe", etc. If you have a sandwich sign, also consider a hilarious joke or drawing! People love posting pics of a good sandwich sign
+Host a lil' event to launch your subscriptions. Think free ice cream or coffee or small gift to all of your subscribers... including those who subscribe at the event
+Join your local Business Improvement Association or Chamber of Commerce, entrepreneurs love spreading love for other entrepreneurs
