Any time a student of the depth philosophy generates any type of energy; be it essence, one of the 4 types of absolute energies, or any category of formula, they enter into what is termed “active state”. There are 3 common ways to manipulate the energies we form.
In a burst type fashion; building all energies up into a point and exploding it into a subject.
In a constant, instantly reoccurring type fashion; building up energy to a point, exploding it on a target, absorbing the rebound, and repeating until the energy is consciously disengaged.
In a length type fashion; Building up energies to a point and either slowly releasing them or never expending more than you generate for a set period of time.
The following are the many types of active state forms:
Build- Any single component/amplifier built up and expelled from the body as amplification is simply termed a build. Builds are commonly found to be expressed as a “1 point formula”.

Essence fractional's - Any build from 1% to 100% of a Depth user’s essence potency; built up into a point and activated with an essence movement towards thatof a subject. Essence fractional's are commonly seen activated in 4levels; 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%.

Essence derivatives - Any form of essence that is not a simple pure build. Any essence derivative is obtained by filtering pure essence with an absolute energy and/or an emotion or by afflicting said essence build with auxiliary components.

General formulas - Any composition of at least 2 components placed together and activated into the physical body or the mental mind. May or may not be paired with auxiliary components or essence derivatives or both. General formulas are done in place and do not harness movement. As such; they are very limited in being used for situational diversity, they do however make up for lack of situational diversity with potency.
- Burst
Situational formula - Any composition of at least 2 components placed together and activated into the physical body or the mental mind. May or may not be paired with auxiliary components or essence derivatives or both and altered for specific scenarios, Ex. Longer time frame of amp (length), More than one exertion from a single build (constants). Situational formulas have been known to be crated for things such as the ability to increase resiliency to that of an accelerated drop or to recirculate damage to the body as energy in future formula's.
