Hi Wildflowers! 

THIS WEEK’S QUOTE: “Let Go or Be Dragged.” Zen Proverb.

Here we go again! Heading into the holidays with all kinds of expectations. Especially when it comes to our family and friends.

There are wonderful surprises. There are total let downs. 

There are triggers. There are repeated patterns. There are breakthroughs. 

And, let's get real. It’s not just during the holidays, it’s every season. It's life.

My therapist used to say “stop trying to make the river go in the other direction” which is another way to say “let go or be dragged.” It has taken me many years to "let go and let God" or "let Jesus take the wheel" or as The Beatles advised, "let it be."

Some of the toughest battles we face are when we try to control other people's behavior or when we get sucked up into their drama du jour. 

It robs us of our joy and our peace on earth. You and I deserve better.

If you are waiting for someone else to be different. Stop waiting.

You cannot change everyone else. Only yourself. 

Easier said than done (lawd I know). But an active and daily practice of focusing on yourself can result in beautiful, magical changes. It starts with you and if you're lucky enough, others will follow your lead.

So where does one begin? By hitting the pause button on your own patterns and behaviors, so you can free yourself and lighten your load.


Arthur Fonzarelli used to invite individuals to “step into my office” which was really the bathroom at Arnold’s (later Al’s) drive-in on Happy Days. It was the place where private conversations took place, problems were investigated and solutions were offered. I invite you to step into your office (the bathroom) whenever you find you need a break or a moment to “Cool it! Ayeeee.”

Is a person or situation upsetting you? Go sit in the bathroom. While there, ask yourself if you are keeping an old, tired story alive by engaging in nonsense and if it’s something that nourishes you to keep it alive or if it’s time to flush it down the toilet like yesterday’s goldfish. Look in the mirror and give yourself a pep talk, sing a kick ass song or … tell yourself a secret! And remind yourself “let go or be dragged.”

In the bathroom (like space), nobody can hear you scream. Take advantage of this alone time and see what you can leave behind and how you can return but with a different frame of mind. Smile knowing that you have a secret from the bathroom and NOBODY can take that away from you.
