09.25.22 - Wildflower Philosophy from Gennifer with a G
THIS WEEK’S QUOTE: “The trees will tell their secrets to those that tune in,” Steven Magee, Author and Environmental Radiation Researcher.
While Steven’s quote is more scientific as related to what he's a researcher of, it reminded me of many times the trees (who I consider my longtime, trusted friends), shared messages for me and for those around me. Here are some I want to share with you today:
🌳Be like a tree #1 - Trees take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen. They take in the “bad” air and convert that into “good.” We have the ability to do that too but with pain, fears etc. The next time you are experiencing something tough, think about how you can be like a tree and convert that carbon dioxide into the oxygen you need.
🌳Be like a tree #2 - Plant deep roots so you can reach up to the limitless sky. Trees are only strong because of their windy, stormy world. True story, trees were dropping dead during an experiment in Arizona where they created a tiny version of Earth to learn about how the planet’s living systems actually work. The reason? The biodome did not have wind. Trees need wind to blow against them because it causes their root systems to grow deeper, which supports the tree as it grows taller.
🌳Be like a tree #3 - Embrace the beauty of your seasons. I like to think of this one in two ways. First of all, no matter what is going on in my life the trees at my home do their thing. I have two Japanese maples outside who I call sisters. In the winter their trunks and branches wear the NY snow like feather boas and stylish pashminas. In the spring, they are right on time with little green sprouts of hope. By summer their leaves provide so much shade that we barely need air conditioning to keep cool inside. And then in the fall they have what I call their Red Carpet Farewell Tour in which their leaves turn scarlet and then both drop those leaves onto my lawn so it is a sea of red. And this takes place in about a 2 week cycle from beginning to end. It’s magical! If work is crazy, life is crazy etc, I always check on my trees and notice that the world is still turning and things are always happening as they are supposed to in the right time and way.
Second, we hear about aging as seasons too. Springtime (babies), summer (youth), autumn (midlife) and winter (silver seniors). There is beauty and purpose in all of that too. I’d like to add that even your soul goes through this throughout your lifetime as you change, evolve, grow, shed, rediscover, reimagine and grow again.
🌴It’s an exciting time to be a tree!
THIS WEEK’S RITUAL: Wherever you live, scan the trees nearby and see which one resonates with you, which one draws your attention. That’s your tree and it wants to give you messages and encouragement. You can collect photos of that tree, send telepathic (or verbal) messages to that tree. And you’ll find you receive a little message back. It’ll most likely be super short like “all good” or “i love you.” Trust me, the Lorax (who speaks for the trees) is my spirit animal!
RECOMMENDATION OF THE WEEK: Intelligent Trees is a fascinating documentary that won several awards Trees talk, know family ties and care for their young? Is this too fantastic to be true? Scientist Suzanne Simard (The University of British Columbia, Canada) and German forester and author Peter Wohlleben have been investigating and observing the communication between trees over decades. And their findings are most astounding.
May you turn over many beautifully new leaves in your life this week. Love, Gennifer
